About Addis Ababa Branch Office

The Organization for Social Services, Health, and Development (OSSHD) Addis Ababa Branch was established in 1997 GC to assume the responsibility of addressing social, health, and development issues within the city government of Addis Ababa. The branch has extensive experience implementing HIV/AIDS and integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programs. Over the years, it has successfully managed more than seven different projects. Currently, the branch is implementing two projects, namely PAAD and MOH/Global Fund , with a team of 34 staff members—15 males and 19 females—as well as 40 community promoters and peer services providers . The organization’s interventions are aligned with its three pillars: health, social, and development, and target the objectives outlined in the NSP 2023-2027. Geographically, the branch covers ten sub-cities within Addis Ababa, serving a population of approximately 3.5 million residents. OSSHD Addis Ababa is widely recognized throughout the city and enjoys strong recognition from the government, NGOs, CBOs, and the community at large. It is the chairperson of the NGO forum within the Addis Ababa health bureau and is an active member of HIV/AIDS prevention networks at the city level, as well as a participant in TWGs at the sub-city level. The organization also actively contributes to harm reduction efforts for People Who Inject Drugs (PWID) through the Ministry of Health’s TWG. The projects are implemented primarily through community-based outreach activities and Drop-In Centers (DICs), which serve as medium-level SRH/HIV clinics, supported by a well-established referral system. Additionally, most projects extend beyond individual clients to focus on community capacity building, partnership development, networking, resource mobilization, referral systems, awareness rising, and the production and distribution of IEC/BCC materials. The integrated income-generating activity (IGA) components are also included within care and support services for People Living with HIV (PLWH), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Female Sex Workers (FSW), as a means of economic strengthening.
